Hebrews 10:12 “But when this Priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God”.
The problem of mankind (humans, animals, nature) was solved by just one perfect sacrifice offered by God Himself in human form in the person of Christ Jesus. The root cause of man’s problem was sin and sin was dealt with by Christ Jesus once for all. Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection took care of sin and ushered mankind into a new era of living.
The one sacrifice for sins has made the righteous acceptable before the Father without any form of guilt or condemnation. Colossians 1:22 “But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation”. God sees you holy, without blemish (fault) and free from accusation!
The repeated sacrifices of bulls and goat could never take away the sins of man but by one sacrifice offered by Jesus, sin was dealt with once for all. Every year the high priest are to enter the Most Holy Place to offer sacrifice for the sins of the people and for himself. This shows us that, the sacrifice offered by the high priest was never a perfect sacrifice. But Jesus offered one sacrifice for sins once for all.
Hebrews 9:25-26 “Nor did he enter heaven to offer himself again and again, the way the high priest enters the Most Holy Place every year… But now he has offered once for all… to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself”.
Hebrews 10:11-12 “Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offer the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But when this priest (Christ Jesus) had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God”.
While every priest stood to offer sacrifice for sins, they never sat down because their work wasn’t finished. But Jesus offered one sacrifice for sins that passed through time – past, present, and future, He sat down, indicating that the work was finished! There’s nothing to be done.
It was the one sacrifice for sins that gave me the gift of righteousness which was impossible for the repeated sacrifices of bulls and goats to have given me, for if it were possible, there won’t have been any need for the sacrifice of Jesus. But it wasn’t possible and no matter a number of human efforts, it still wouldn’t have been possible. Romans 5:17 “For if by the trespass of one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness…”
The one sacrifice for sins obtained for you and me eternal redemption. Hebrews 9:12 “He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, having obtained eternal redemption”.
Romans 6:10-11 “The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God. In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus”.
How many times did Jesus die to sin? Once for all! In other words, He will not die to sin NEVER again. It was a once for all death to sin. In the same way, Jesus died to sin once for all, you also count yourselves dead to sin once for all! As a believer, you are dead to sin ONCE FOR ALL. You are not dying every day to sin. You died to sin once for all. You are spotless, without fault in His eyes.
Romans 4:25 “He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification”. He offered up His life for sins, the sins He never committed and was raised to life because God found no sin in us! He was raised to life because no sin was found in you and I. Righteousness was inputted into your account.
2Corithntians 5:21 “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us so that in him we might become the righteousness of God”. He took all our sins – past, present, and future and gave us His righteousness- eternal righteousness. He didn’t just give us His righteousness, He became our righteousness.
