I know some persons will be surprised by this title, some may even think that it is an acronym for something else. Well, it is what you know it as. It is not an acronym for something else, so quit trying to reason far and please stay here with me as we journey through.
Sometimes I’m perplexed when I hear people and even Christians use the word “R.I.P”. I begin to ask myself, can the dead truly “rest in peace?” as it is being popularly said. I believe it is now a present-day nomenclature, that we don’t even know what we are even saying, we just follow the trend. After all, everyone is saying it, why should my case be different.
The dead cannot “rest in peace”. It doesn’t matter who the person may be or what he/ she has done in the flesh. Hebrews 9:27 “just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment”. The judgment of the dead is to either be with the Father in heaven or to be in hell. For the dead who had received Jesus, spends eternity with God in heaven, and in heaven, there is no chaos or war. Because over there, peace is the presence of Someone – Jesus. So, telling or saying to the dead “rest in peace” is of no use especially knowing that he/ she was a believer. Because where he/she is there is no chaos or war. So why tell him/her to rest in peace like where they are is full of turbulence.
For the man who never received Jesus, that is, not born again, the unbeliever, when he/she dies, goes to hell, which is the judgment after death. Of course, we know that in hell, there is no peace, you don’t even find an iota of it there! A place where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth! So tell me, how can the one who never received Jesus rest in peace, especially in hell? There is no peace in hell.
Therefore, the dead will face judgement of either spending eternity with God in heaven, where peace is the presence of Someone – Jesus, and there is no need to tell that to a dead believer or spend eternity in hell where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth and no amount of rest in peace we say to that person, he never finds that in hell.
