Several years ago, I use to think that if God doesn’t move you to pray for the sick, you don’t. God must be the one to move you to pray for the sick. Because before you pray, you should inquire if it’s God’s will for that individual to be healed or not. So, if God doesn’t move me I don’t move an inch or make an attempt to. But I found from God’s Word that it’s not so. For whatever God has commanded or instructed us to do expressly in His Word, we don’t need to pray or ask Him if we should or should not carry out that command. He instructed us, gave us the command in Matt 10:8 “heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons”. What could be clearer than this! He has told you to heal the sick, so don’t ask Him if you should and you shouldn’t tell Him to come heal the sick because He has given you the command to do so.
Believers are fond of waiting for God to “move” them before they can do anything. Let me briefly explain what it means when you hear a believer say “I was moved by the Spirit”. It simply means, having an impression in one’s heart (spirit) to carry out a specific instruction or prompting. So, most times when believers don’t have this impression or prompting in their spirit to carry out an instruction already laid down in the Word, they won’t. This ought not to be so. We get “moved” to carry out certain righteous deeds, but what happens when you don’t get this “moving”? Does it mean that it’s not God’s will for that thing to be done? Of course not.
One reason why most believers don’t get “moved” to do certain righteous deeds is that their heart is not yet settled in that area. Like I said earlier, whatever God has given command or instruction on in His word, you don’t need to pray about it. Even when you don’t have the impression or promptings in your spirit to heal the sick, you step out in faith and heal the sick as He has commanded. Jesus in Mark 16:17 “…they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well”. Stop waiting for God to move you, especially on what He has given instruction about.
Sometimes we are waiting for God to move us to go out and talk to someone about Jesus. In that same Mark 16:15 Jesus said: “go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation” (NIV). He has told you to go out and preach! then wake up one morning, feeling like preaching or not, you go out and preach the word of God.
We think we are actually waiting for God to move, but God is the one waiting for us to act in obedience to the Word and when you do you will see the result of His power at work through you!
John 5:2-8 “Now there is in Jerusalem near the Sheep Gate a pool, which in Aramaic is called Bethesda and which is surrounded by five covered colonnades. Here is a great number of disabled people used to lie – the blind, the lame, the paralyzed. One who has been an invalid for thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, “do you want to get well?” “Sir,” the invalid replied, “I have no-one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred…then Jesus said to him, “Get up! Pick up your mat and walk.”
Just like this man, many of us are waiting for the water to be stirred. We wait for the stirring of healing, inspirations, operating in the gifts and many others. I love what Jesus did, why wait for the water to be stirred when you have in front of you the One who gives the water. You are waiting for the water to be stirred so you can be healed when you have the healer standing in front of you. Jesus gave him the water and he was healed instantly.
John 7:37-39 “…if anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him. By this, he meant the Spirit…”
We are not the once waiting for the water to be stirred. We are carriers of the water (Spirit), we stir it up all the time. We are carriers of the Spirit, the embodiment of the power of house of God. We don’t lack inspiration or spirituals. We don’t wait for it to come to us, we dive into the water and drink as much as we can!
We have in us streams of living water. We don’t have to wait for thirty – eight years anymore because we have the water in us and when we stir it up praying in the Holy Spirit it produces an instant result. If you want to see the spirituals in operation in your life, you stir it up by praying in the Spirit. I love what Smith Wigglesworth once said: “if the Spirit doesn’t move you, you move the Spirit”. Paul told Timothy in 2Tim 1:6 “Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you…” There are things in you waiting to be awakened. You have ideas in you that can bring a change in the world. Just stir up the inspiration in you, stir up ideas in you.
Make a move today, whether you feel it or not, whether you heard Him or not. Don’t forget, the life of the believer is a life of faith. For the just shall live by faith.
